Palatka, FL: Several convicted felons, including one man suspected of a brutal series of crimes in West Florida, broke out of detention yesterday by briefly taking one visitor hostage and then making a getaway in a bold rush through the main visitor's entrance, officials said today.
The prisoners were said by a prison spokesman to be Lawrence Lamport, age 34, Darrin Baratta, 27, Manuel Lo, 28, and Barry Martinez, 37.
"I had just come in the front door," said Janet Riley, who was visiting the facility at the time of the breakout. "I was just starting to say a little prayer, then it was all over as quick as it started."
