1) Another birthday:
2) Worked through some problems in this book of quantitative questions asked in Wall Street Job interviews, finding quite a few problems in the exposition of the answers, but also learning quite a bit, too. Kind of fun. Wandered off idly into a few researchy problems, also, for example, is really so hard to find Nash Equilibria? I couldn't find a simple algorithm or paper on the subject.
3) We drove down to San Jose to witness a 44-33 victory for Owen's 5th grade NJB against Evergreen. Later, the Stanford women's basketball team lost to Tennessee, at Tennessee. With the score tied and 20 seconds remaining, Melanie Murphy walked the ball up the backcourt, then messed around a bit while failing to pass the ball to anyone. At last, with about 4 seconds left and a sense of newly-found urgency, she suddenly thought she actually do something and had her shot blocked. Not good.
