THANE: OK, you've been complaining about my not restocking the Prius with Hi-Chews, and they didn't have any at this gas station, but look---I got some tic-tacs.
OWEN: What flavor?
THANE: What? Oh, well they're two colors, see, red and yellow. OK---it's Passionfruit Cherry.
OWEN: I'll have some.
THANE: Why red and yellow?
OWEN: The red ones are cherry, and the yellow ones are passionfruit.
THANE: Passion fruit? Is that a real fruit?
OWEN: Yes, look, it says here on the ingredients label: "Dried Passionfruit Juice."
THANE: Dried juice? What is that? How can something be dried, and also be juice? I'm skeptical.
OWEN: I don't know. But yes, there is a passion fruit I think.
THANE: What does it look like? Can I go to Safeway and buy two dozen passion fruit? OK, suppose I take a big glass of juice, set it outside, and let it evaporate. What would be left? Dried Juice? Could I scrape it off the side of a glass, and make candy out of it?
OWEN: Maybe, I don't know. I think so. I don't know what passion fruit looks like.
* * * [later] * * *
GLORIA: What, are you crazy? Of course there is passion fruit.
THANE: OK, well, it sounded bogus to me. People have been making up fruit names, right? Don't tell me I'm wrong about that.
